On my D531, I was trying to flash the firmware with Liggy's for the Optiarc AD-5540A drive, but it wouldn't go through, so I (stupidly) set the drive's setting to slave in an attempt to get that to work.

Because of that, It won't even detect the drive now, and I don't think I can get a regular Slim ATA adapter to IDE for it either, as it uses a different port (Maybe its just for the D series Latitudes?)

    any help would be appreciated...

Has the ODD got one IDE channel for itself? If so, the master / slave issue shouldn't matter - a slave device will work without a master on the same channel. If it is sharing the channel with something else then you would have a conflict which you might be able to temporarily work around by disconnecting the other device.

One thing I would try is runinstalling the relevant IDE channel in Device Manager and then letting Windows redetect the hardware. This might flush out an interface problem.

I'll try that. I sent in a warranty request for dell and the guy put in a request to have the part shipped to me, but it got cancelled later on....

Meh, definatley not messing with this afterwards if it gets resolved...This thing won't even POST without giving me a white screen saying that its not detected...Any idea if theres anything I can use for an adapter if it doesn't use a regular ADA/PATA port?

    guess it wasnt cancelled, yay!
