I'm thinking of getting an external hard drive, I need one that is portable and doesn't need electricity to run. How much is the maximum capacity I can get? What brands do you recommend?
-
The biggest I've seen is 200GB (4200rpm). It's the notebook type drives you're after which can be solely powered through USB. All major brands are OK.
-
however, if what you mean is an external harddrive that doesn't require much power from USB then i think you can have maximum of 200gig 4200 rpm (doesn't take much power) drives.. WD is a good brand IMO.. -
only toshiba and fujitsu have 200 gb hds on the market.
And they are hard to find at that.
Fujitsu will have 250 gb and 300 gb 2.5 inch 4200 rpm hds in the near future.
Right at the moment its 200 gb.
but when you see the 200 gb 4200 rpm hd costs twice what a 160 gb 5400 rpm hd does youre going to get a 160 gb 5400 rpm hd.
youre going to get like a wd or hitachit 160 gb hd for around 100-110 and then a sata enclosure for like 20-35
