I wonder if my Vaio FE790G will take 2x2GB ram.
    Anyone tried?

Even if it will physically accept the chipsets, you will likely only realize 3.24GB of usable memory.

your computer will physically be able to recognize the chipsets but your OS will not recognize all of the RAM until you use a 64-bit OS.

Unless you know somthing I have to disagree. I looked up the specs and they said 2GB. My computer MFG says mine supports 2GB Max, so unless you know something becareful advising on what you may be incorrect on. If you know that they only say that because 2GB sticks were not out when it was designed, that I would like to hear.

The Intel 945 chipset supports 2GB modules (ie up to 4GB RAM in 2 slots).

However, 2GB modules were not available when the computers using this chipset were being designed and tested so most manufacturers played safe and didn't claim compatibility with a 2B RAM module. Subsequently, most have been too lazy to update the specs of older models (and would prefer if you would buy a new notebook). Here's an example: The Q35 specs on Samsung UK show a maximum 1GB module but the specs on Samsung Germany show 2GB (the Germans are more efficient at keeping their site up-to-date).

Intel 945 is the most likely chipset to be found with the T7200 (the ATI 1250M chipset also supports 2GB modules).

I swapped the rams between my pro and thinkpads. The pro worked fine but the thinkpad won't even boot with 4GB?! I removed one of the sticks to keep it as 1*2GB stick and it still didn't work. I know that the X61 max is 4GB and can't figure out what's wrong.
