The manual of my laptop says:

Support (2) DDR2 400/533 SO DIMM up to 1GB total

does this really apply? i was planning to buy 2x1gb sticks for this then I just found out about this..darn it!!

question is, has anyone tried putting more than the maximum amount of memory in his laptop? maybe I could get some feedback.

What model/manfacturer? That would help us figure it out.

I'm sus. First off Pentium-Ms do not go as high as 2.6GHz. Secondly an intel 915 should (I would have thought) support up to 2Gb ram. That said it only supports up to 80Gb hard drives.

What is the actual spec of YOUR machine?

If that is your model, from the link you providede (2nd one) and click Specification up top, it says - "Support (2) DDR2 400/533 SO DIMM up to 1GB total" that could *2* x 1GB per slot or it could be 1GB total (iffy statement) - best bet is to call the manf. of the laptop and ask them, or purchase your 2GB, put it in and see what it recognizes, if it only recognizes 1GB, return for 2 x 512mb -

you're right, 2.1ghz is the highest for Pentium M's..mine's rated at 2.0ghz.

anyway, thanks for the advice jpagel. it's just a slight hassle to save up/budget for 2gb then learn that it's not compatible..

That would be 4 GB - I would think it would handle 2GB without issue - I personally wouldn't trust the System Info completely - But I wouldn't doubt your laptop being able to take up to 4GB either - Manf. "might" have more info if you give them all these details -
