Hi guys. I wanted to confirm some info before I split open my notebook and drop a hotter cpu in it and close it back up.

The zd7000s do not use an intel "laptop" chipset or "mobile" pentium 4s, do they. It's a special desktop chipset hybrid and a straight up desktop pentium 4, right? I've done lots of research and looking up and comparing info from intel's site from cpu-z readouts and model codes, etc. Just want to make sure.

Also, I have a p4 northwood 2.8 in here right now. I was thinking of going to a 3.4 northwood to get the speed and the ht. I understand I could go prescott if I wanted to, but two things keep me from this. Sounds like the prescott's sse3 support and larger cache make it a marginally better performer than a comparable northwood, but they are just all around hotter is what I understand, which scares me about putting it in my notebook obviously.

I am pretty sure my zd7058cl is basically the same system HP later used to drop in a 3.4EE, and if that's true, I'm not concerned about it overheating with a 3.4 northwood, and I guess a prescott either (P4EE's hotter or cooler than prescotts?).

    Thanks guys!

Hello Josh, you are right the ZD7058CL does use a straight up desktop P4. I will tell you this though, I owned an HP laptop with a Northwood P4, and was going to do that aswell, the only thing that stopped me, like you were (2) things. My notebook sounded like a vacume cleaner so if I upgraded the processor it would be even worse. Keep in mind that by upgrading the processor the fan will come on ALOT more which would make me go crazy, I'm not sure about you. Secondly, I'm sure you know this but make sure that the replacement chip is the same in terms of FSB relative Voltage and what not.

I'm pretty sure that the P4EE's run hotter than Prescotts. Anyways the highest 400 FSB Northwood is 2.8 ghz, hopefully you didn't get stuck with that. I would stick with a Northwood if you have a 533 FSB just get a faster chip within that series and make sure you have adequate cooling, hope this helped some. Good luck,
