Recently, with my new P-FX, I've been noticing the right palm area getting extremely warm. No worries, I thought, as my CPU stays around 44C idle, and GPU around 41C. I figured I would go ahead and download HWMonitor, just in case.

Here's what I found out. This is at idle-

    Core 0- 43C
    Core 1- 45C
    GPU- 43C
    HDD- 54C

Now, the CPU and GPU don't seem too bad, but jeez, 54C seems extremely hot for a HDD. I have the notebook elevated so the air can ventilate, but this is kind of crazy.

Anyone have any opinions? Is 54C not too hot for a HDD?

Try switching off indexing, if you have not already....
There maybe some service in the background that may be keeping the drive up and running continually....
Boot the system in Safe Mode or do a Diagnostic Startup, to check if the HDD is truly being battered due to some service....

Yup, switched off indexing when I first turned on the computer. Right now, I can't really tell if anything is hot, because I am installing a program, so of course the drive is being accessed. I know the GPU temp is fine, and the CPU temp is decent, but the HDD is kind of worrying me.

54*C is considerably high....though it is no where near getting fried..!!
Also do the usual registry and HDD defrags and cleanups.. :)

Only had the computer for a week, so I shouldn't need to defrag. I'm just wondering why it runs so warm...

Removed all. See, I can't figure out the problem... maybe I'll try a registry cleaning. The HDD light stays on almost constantly!

Yeah, if you can - try Uniblue, it has an option to defrag registry as well..!! :p
and also try out PageDefrag to defrag the page file..(dunno if that would help..)

I'm defraging now with Auslogics. Program has always worked good for me. Hopefully this works!

coming from someone that has the same laptop as the OP, the hard drive does get really hot at times, usually when its being accessed constantly, or if you have it sitting on your lap. try elevating the front of the laptop. and lets not forget that the hard drive sits in an enclosed cage, so that doesnt make the temps any better. i'd recommend getting a cooler, as i havent seen temps over 45C for the hard drive since using it on this laptop.

Don't really have a budget, received my pay for this quarter. (Hence all the new purchases, and yes, I am paid quarterly by the label)
