Looking for some memory for my netbook , I have 2 choices.
Kingston Value CL5 , lifetime warranty
Unbranded CL4 , lifetime warranty , Micron chips.
Should i take the risk with the Unbanded CL4 or stick to the Kingston CL5
Thanks for the help.
EDIT : I have read that CL4 at 667mhz is as fast as running CL5 at 800mhz![]()

Doesn't really matter performance wise. I would read up on the warranty of the unbranded company, would you send it directly back to the store if something goes wrong? Is there a chance this company will go under?

I have sent them a email to find out who the lifetime guarantee is after the first year on the unbranded play.com memory.

I've had no issues with some unbranded memory from 7dayshop.com. It's running alongside an OCZ module in my E6400 and actually has slightly better timings.

So which one would you choose, John.

I would get the cheaper and faster unit. The slightly lower latency will make a very small boost to the performance, particularly for the integrated graphics.
Most PC6400 RAM also has timings of CL4 @ 667MHz, but that RAM seems to be slightly more expensive (I paid £13.99 last December).
Another option is this, but it is only CL5.

I had already considered the dane-elec version you linked , but i would rather pay slightly more an get better chips.
Will the CL4 version with the Micron chips, i linked be fully compatible with an Intel 915GM chipset.
EDIT : Also the CL4 version haveing only 4 chips instead of 8 , will it be more energy efficient.
Thanks. -

1. I don't recall having any RAM compatibility issues with Intel chipsets. The Samsung R20 was fussy, but had an ATI chipset.
2. Having 4 chips instead of 8 may make a fractional power saving.

I received a response from play.com , I asked asked who the lifetime warrenty was with after the first year.
So it look like play.com do the lifetime warranty, I hope they last that long.

I've often wondered about the definition "lifetime" used in the warranty context.
Is it the lifetime of the original purchaser, the lifetime of the current user or the life of the product itself?
Anyway, RAM usually shows problems quite quickly or will outlive the product it is in.

Lifetime is for the original buyer. Some products (most noteably desktop GPUs) have double lifetime, which also supports the 2nd buyer (I think eVGA has this).

The top pictured ram for £16.49 from play.com
The second picture is from pcworld.com at £37.99
They look identical apart from the micron logo on the £16.49 stick chips.
Quite a difference in price.
Could be photo-shop images.

Those pictures are completely meaningless and what you get would probably differ from them. Definitely looks like they are photoshopped from the same stock photo.
