I've an Ibm Thinkpad 600 coming in the mail in a few days and I'm planning on upgrading the memory to the max 256mb with 2x128mb sticks.

The laptop uses PC66 144pin SDRam. I would like to know if I can use 2 sticks of PC100 or PC133 SDRam for the laptop, which(in my opinion) would be lowered to the PC66 speed.

*I guess from what I've read.. the CPU would have to be faster than 300mhz in order to be compatible with PC100 or PC133. The current CPU is likely 233mhz or 266mh. I was hoping to upgrade the CPU to a Pentium 2 400mhz, so maybe then it would be compatible with the memory.

Please forgive my ignorance in the matter. I don't know too much hardware wise, but am certainly willing to learn.

I'll be able to give more detailed information when the laptop comes in... hopefully tomorrow :D

Thanks for any help you can give.

Is not that your answer? I think ThinkPads.com is probably a better place to get this info. They have a whole forum dedicated to legacy hardware like the 600. I know older ThinkPads tend to be very picky about which memory they'll accept. If it don't work, it could just be it doesn't like the memory sticks.

Also, no bumps for 24 hours, per the forum rules.
