    I have a Compaq Presario V2565US (a version of the V2000).

I bought a 1GB Dimm that is labeled 3200/2700 PC400/333 184 Pin. I realized when I got home that the package was labeled Desktop.

Searching I found out that I do need the 3200/2700 however I believe I need a 200 pin.

The one I bought was on sale at Staples for around $55.

Am I correct that this is incompatible? Does KByte make one that is at Staples?

    Thanks.

Yes desktop memory is incompatible with notebooks. Different size. Staples has compatible memory listed under "Notebook Memory". However they are waay overpriced.

Return the desktop memory and order from an internet store such as NewEgg.com or Tigerdirect.com for a better price.

EDIT: Check out this Crucial site. It lists some specifications about what RAM is compatible with your computer:

What is the difference between PC3200 and PC2700 ? Also does 333 mhz or 400 mhz make a diff?

    Thanks.

You will have to return your memory. Do it today, and try to go back to the same cashier you bought it from. He/she will remember you and you will be able to get your money back.

I would not buy from K-byte, I have had a few problems with them a few years back, and now I only use corsair, crucial and supertalent.

The Pc3200 is faster memory since it runs at 400Mhz.
If your system will work with either Pc2700 or Pc3200. If your chipset only supports Pc2700, than the Pc3200 wioll clock down to pc2700 speeds.

    As K-TRON said:

I think your system will just clock down to PC2700 anyways (the ram you have in there now is PC2700 according to Compaq), so order whichever one is least expensive.

Looks compatible to me. Seems like a decent price, but i've never used Transcend. Personally I would pay the extra money to order a corsair or crucial (as K-Tron suggested) because faulty memory isn't fun. But it comes with a life-time warranty, so it should be safe enough.

EDIT: now that I think about it Corsair gave me a bad batch of desktop memory a few months ago which I have yet to send in for replacement. Jerks ;).

I have never used Transcend either, but if it has a lifetime warranty as Greg mentioned, it will be a good purchase.
All memory used on each memory card is made by one of the five main memory manufacturers, which are Qimonda, Samsung, Hynix, SEC/ElPida and Micron.
Most manufacturers use hynix or samsung memory chips, because they are very good and they are cheap.
However, Micron makes the highest performance memory chips, which is why Corsair and Crucial use them in most of their memory cards. With Crucial, you are guaranted micron memory because Crucial is a company partnered with Micron technologies.

ANyways, you should be fine with that memory as long as it has a lifetime waranty. If it does not have a lifetime warranty I suggest spending more to get memory which does have a lifetime warranty. You just never know when a memory card is going to die on you. The few extra dollars to get the lifetime warranty is worth it to have that peace of mind.

I actually have a Trendnet KVM switch that is pretty decent. They sell a lot of products through Newegg and ChiefValue which I think is Newegg under a different name. I currently have a 500mb dimm that I added soon after buying the laptop and an original 256 so my plan is to replace the 256 and have 1.5 gb, with 128 being lost to shared video. I'm not sure if the 500mb is 2700 or 3200, its not marked on the top, when I pull it out maybe its marked on the bottom...
