Hi, I recently purchased a Fujitsu 2110with 512 Mb of memory for my sister and I wanted to know where to buy modules for a good price. I am looking for either a 512Mb module or a 1 gig module, depending on the prices. The machine is on its way, and I want to have the memory module ready to upgrade.

PS: im pretty sure it doesnt, but ill ask anyways. Does upgrading the machine void the warranty?

Upgrading RAM and Hardrive does not void the warranty.

If you are looking for a good deal on RAM check out:

    www.zipzoomfly.com
    www.newegg.com

They usually have very good deals.

RAM upgrade does not void the warranty but the Hard drive, i am not quite so sure. Many manufacturers consider it as a non user upgradable part.

If you do upgrade keep the original in case of any warranty issues send the laptop in for service with the original drive.

hello im finally getting around to buying this memory module, but I'm confused by DDR speed. The 512 one i got now is DDR 333. Can I/ should i get a different one?

    which is faster?

also...whats the difference between DDR and DDR2....i seem to recall from when i was shopping that mine is DDR2...am I right?

what about "cas latency" and what manufacturer do you recommend?

sory for all the questions, but i cant figure this out.

You can get DDR400 memory but if you mix it with your current slower memory it will also run at the same speed as the slower memory(i.e. DDR 333). But in the future if you change your original memory to DDR400 then both will run at 400MHz speeds. So, if you can get DDR400 memory but DDR333 shouldnt really hurt the performance as the difference is quite minimal.

DDR400 will obviously be faster than DDR333.

DDR2 is the next generation in memory. It consumes less power than DDR memory and runs at fatser speeds. DDR2 will virtually take over after DDR. If you have the AMD based S211o then you cannot use DDR2 memory as currently all AMD based systems support only DDR memory. AMD will update ite processors later this year to support DDR2 as currently DDR2 memory will run slower on AMD based systems since they have higher latencies which ruins the advantage of the on die memory controller.

CAS latency is the time which it takes for the RAM to reply to the processor with the data stored. Usually for DDR memory it stay between 2 - 3 clock cycles. For general use the latency does not affect performance that much. But if you want to extract the most out of the memory then get one with lower CAS latency.

Crucial, Kingston, OCZ, Corsair are all good memory brands. A 200pin DDR 333MHz SODIMM should be compatible with the S2110.

For fujitsu HDD upgrade keep the old drive. If you need to return your notebook for repair, plug the old one back in. Sometimes Fujitsu get picky about user upgraded HDD.

As for memory upgrade. Fujitsu considers that user upgradable.

This thread is ancient, but I am now finally shopping for this :). The notebook's been running nicely without it though.

I am looking at these models.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820172105

    are these alll compatible?

One of them is DDR 400 for the same price as the DDR333. I know that it will run at 333, but if its the same price I was thinking it might be good to have the 400 in case i decide to upgrade the 333 I have to 400 in the future. Will it give me trouble?

also, are these all about the same quality? Why are they more than one kingstown and why the price difference between them?

Im shopping a few things on Newegg, so I can get some kind of shipping discount, if possible.

hope to hear from you guys.

Its a Sunday. So things are usually bit more quiet around here.

Anyways the RAM you have slected seem to be pretty good choices. As for the difference in price between the 2 Kingston modules is because the cheaper one is the value series whereas the costlier one is their mainstream brand. The Kingston valueram should do fine in most cases. The quality wil be around the same. Not too much of any noticable differences.

oh, ok thanks. But do you recommend buying the DDR 400 over the DDR 333 for the same price?

Upping this...can anyone please tell me if it will cause problems to get that DDR400? It is the deciding factor for me. I want to order it ASAP.

    thanks again. :)
