Hey guys,
im kinda a noob on computers and i need your help. I bought an extra 1gb 667mhz of ram from newegg.com and i already have a 1 gig-533mhz (512+512) of ram in my notebook. i was wondering if i can combine my new memory 1gb-667mhz with one of the 512-533mhz sticks making it 1.5gb memory total. Will i experience any issues in doing this because the speed of those two rams are different and im not sure if it will work. Help me plz![]()
. Thanks guys!

The speeds are different, but they will both run, although they will run at the lower speed(533Mhz and 667Mhz = the processor will run the memory at 533Mhz). Since they are different sizes too, they wont run in Dual Channel aswell(I might be wrong on that though).

o ok i got it now. thanx for the help.

note that you won't notice any difference with 1.5 RAM unless you're working on a very big project
I won't try to combine 2 different brand RAM though , cause you'll never know of any compability issues and the worst case ,you might ruin your laptop -

along those lines...from another rather newbie at laptops who would be grateful for some help: Dell is now offering either the PC4200 or PC5300 memory upgrades. Tigerdirect lists PC5400 -- with the same speed as the "5300" -- so i assume they are identical. If they now have 2gig per chip, could we upgrade to 4 gig (2 chips), rather than the 2gig "max" that Dell advertizes for the E1505? Or is there another factor behind the architecture of the system that limits it to 2gig as the max upgrade?

5300/5400 are the same, this link from your notebooks manual indicates they were aware of 2GB sticks yet still say 2GB is max. So unless some one confirms it does work with more, I would stick with 2GB total.

Wow. Thanks. Guess we can't mess with the terms under which we bought our laptops -- just gotta donate the old one to mom someday and buy a faster model. Just working on a 500 page book this morning and my dear 1gig choked up on me -- so i better upgrade soon. Thanks again.

It should work flawlessly apart from the fact that it won't be dual channel, so the throughput will be slower.
As for speed...the notebook will use the speed of the slower!!! module even if it could support the faster, which could be the case. If I remember right, the Inspiron 1505 is called Inspiron 6400 in Europe which definitely can handle memory speeds up to 667Mhz, so you could boost your notebook if you use 2 modules with this speed.
