Hey guys I have a couple questions about ram for the t61. I had ordered the t61 with only 1gb (1 dimm) of ram because I will be buying 2gb (2 dimms) of ram from newegg. Here are my options:

    1) take out the 1gb and just put the new 2gb of ram in there and have dual channel
    2) keep both 1gb and 2gb to make 3gb
    3) get another stick of 1 dimm or another 2gb to make 4gb (will this run dual channel and is it supported on this comp with vista 32bit?)

    Thanks!

2GB of RAM total would be ideal. You should have kept the default configuration of a single 512MB DIMM. You can buy 1GB for about $38 on Newegg. Buy two DIMMs and that's $76, which is still cheaper than upgrading to 1GB from Lenovo and buying another 1GB DIMM from Newegg.

I'd keep the 1GB DIMM and just buy another 1GB DIMM from Newegg.

Heres my thought: I want this thing to last at least 4 years and I do some serious multitasking plus who knows what ram requirements will be in 4 years. Is it better to have dual channel or more memory?

The cheapest would be to do 1gb from newegg but Im not sure if it would run dual channel.

look at your current ram dimm module... check what speed/rating and other specs... buy something from newegg accordingly... 2gb should be fine, if you really want to, just buy a 2gb dimm, dual channel is nowhere near as important as more memory, in my opinion...

2GB should be fine for 99% of the users right now. 2GB DIMMs are still pretty expensive compared to 1GB DIMMs. Once they drop in prices in a year or two, then I'd suggest buying 2GB DIMMs.
