I'm in need of some help regarding my laptop memory malfunction, hopefully this is the right place to post.

I dropped my laptop this afternoon and ever since the darn thing has developed some sort of hard drive malfunction. The startup system keeps looping when the XP picture comes on, restarting and progressing until that point before restarting again. Is there any way for me to salvage my personal files or somehow remedy the situation?

If it is a hardware malfunction of your HDD you can take it to a proffesional to try and recover your files. If it was mine, I would hit it again, even when it is starting only because I have nothing to loose, but go back to my 1st advice.

You can try to take out the HDD and attach it to another machine in order to access the files directly - there's plenty of adaptors you can buy... but if a large portion of the drive is screwed up chances are you won't be able to get much out of it.

Good point, may not be a HDD problem!
