Hi,
I have a Acer Timeline 4810T with Intel Core 2 Duo U9400 with 2 x 2GB 800Mhz memory modules.
Can I upgrade it to 8GB with 2 x 4GB modules? I'm using Ubuntu 64bit so OS support is not a problem, I just need to know if the hardware supports it.
Thanks in advance.

From what I am seeing at Crucial, the 4810T supports 2 x 4 GB DDR3 modules.

Hi Tsunade_Hime,
Thanks for your advice. I bought these:
Kingston Technology Company - Kingston Memory Search - Search Results for: KVR1066D3S7/4G
because crucial were not available where I am, but it's not working. The computer just hangs dead slow - something that took 5s before now it takes 5 minutes.
do you think it's a compatibility issue or a defect?
thanks -

Ya sounds like a possible bad stick of RAM. I would rip a Memtest iso and let it run a few times, see if you get any errors. If you get errors, RMA it.

I have the same problem with mine, tried two different ram pairs.
both same thing. just hangs on windows start up... -
Not much help, but I have the Lenovo U150, which is basically Lenovo's version using the GS45 and SU9400 and it is working fine with 8GB, so technically it is possible with that chipset and CPU combo. Lots of reviews on the web with 8GB so I think it is a localized bad memory issue as opposed to a systemic problem.

It's weird that two different sets of ram would do the same thing tho. Could I need a bios update?

I have the same issue. In my search for a revolution I spoke to Crucial and was told that I need to call their tech dept for them to walk me thru the installation, to make a long story short it appears that the Bio's need to be flashed in order to get the 4810t timeline to except the upgrade Its under the Forum on Crutial's web site. In searching Acers web site I found out that a Class Action suite has been filed and basically resolved for Acer not providing Rescue disks and a few other things. I have not fooled with the Bio's because of past threads about going to Bio' Hell if you screw up. And if you do decide to go that way I believe that there is another tweak that needs to be done thru the safe mode or all the laptop will do after the install is have more issues. But you know as well as I do only the people who have problems with this ever write to these forums unfortunately I guess that's me now. And check this out the New Sandy Bridge Chips that Acer has installed are having issues with the chips degrading over time. It looks like that's Intel's issue and they will fix it, sometime in the future. I really like my timeline so I will hold my comments to this it sure looks like someone is out to make Acer look bad. I seen you post and thought you should be brought up to speed. Sincerely Pat in Montana.
