I bought an HP dv6000t with 1g of memory, 2 sticks of 512mb. I would like to upgrade I think to 2gb. What is a better option for me, two sticks of 1g or one stick of 2gb. Also, what is a good option for memory, what company and what specs for my HP. I would like to get good, high quality performance memory, but I also cannot spend a fortune. Thanks all.

A 2GB stick of memory is going to be expensive. You are better off getting two 1GB sticks for now.

Kingston, Crucial, and Corsair are reputable brands. For the dv6000t, the memory used is PC2-5300 667 MHz.

Yeah stick with the 2 x 1 GB RAM modules. a single 2GB module is around ~$1000. Might as well buy another laptop with that.

You will also get dual channel with 2 modules, effectively doubling your bandwidth.

I'm in debate about spring for HP to build in 1-2 GB of memory or getting 512 stock and adding a 1mb stick on my own (1.256mb effective) until I get a 2nd stick at 1mb.

What would I expect for in performance?

Did you find any 3rd party compatible 2x1GB modules?
I am also interesting to do this.
Can HP accept the return of 2x512MB and discount for the 2x1GB ones?

You'd probably have to sell the 512mb sticks yourself on ebay!

Someone out there probably would. I'm getting 2x 1 GB sticks of OCZ RAM for my lappy for christmas, so I will have a large stockpile of laptop RAM and other things aftwards. I will either give them to friends or post them up on ebay.

It is 200 pin SODIMM (just make sure it is DDR2, as old DDR SODIMMs are also 200 pin).

As for it running DDR2-800, It may work but will likely clock down to 667 anyway.
