I purchased a hp pavillion zx5000 in April '04 w/p4-mobile processor and 256 megs of ram (I figured I would buy the least amount of ram possible on the website and replace it later w/memory purchased online). I finally got down to buying "2" 512 sticks of RAM to upgrade it to a gig yesterday. But when I flipped over my notebook I only see one slot open for memory. I looked in the user manual and it doesn't help. I get outsourced on my technical support call and the lady says that the 256 is part of the system and only one slot is upgradeable. How can this be!!! On the otherhand, Crucial.com as well as other memory sites say that the # of slots/banks=2(2 banks of 1). Please tell me that I can put my 2 chips of 512 in there somehow. Thanks.

The other SODIMM is under the keyboard and requires a full disassemble to access.

    Have Fun =)

I was asking hp tech support about how to enable dual channel memory on my notebook. They sent me picture instructions on how to reach both ram compartments its not hard or that much work. If you like I could e-mail them to you. Its only 3 screws and the keyboard.

When you say "one bank that is accessible" do you mean only one bank is empty and the other one has memory installed. If thats the case, its because most newer laptops have only two memory slots.
