I'm thinking of upgrading my laptop with more memory but i'm not sure what type to get. I own a ibm/lenovo t42/t43, they use DDR SO-DIMM right? And could anybody recommend cheap and reasonably good 1gb-sticks? I found Kingstons 1gb ValueRam for $130 or such, not sure about the conversion rate to dollars.

    The T42 uses PC2700 while the T43 uses PC4200.

    What is your location?
Also make sure you know which ThinkPad you have because as ZaZ said, they take differnt types and are not compatible.

I think i've got a spiced-up T42, looked at some specs and they are the closest.

Also, some people have posted in the Lenovo forum as having trouble with Kingston ValueRAM in their T60s. I'd suggest finding something tested for your model, I know Kingston and Crucial both do this. I'd imagine others do as well.

    CPU-Z says
    Type: DDR2
    Channels: Dual

    Freq: 265.6 Mhz
    FSB :DRAM: 1:2
    CAS# Latency: 4.0 clocks
    RAS# to CAS# Delay: 4 clocks
    RAS# Precharge: 4 clocks
    Cycle Time(Tras): 12 clocks

so is that 2700 or 3200?

Ethyriel: thanks for the warning, i'll be sure to find something tested.

    Neither. It's PC4200.

CPU-Z says that the memory runs at 265.6MHz - that is correct but a but confusing; the DDR speed (double-data rate) is double that, so 533MHz.

    DDR2-533 = PC4200

Ahaa, thanks alot for the help. I'll check out some pc4200 memory sticks then. Or could anybody recommend some with fair price/performance ratio? 1GB sized.

Here is a whole list of 1GB DDR2-533 modules:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...9121113+1309221133&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=381

I use two sticks of OCZ in my notebook, great quality. Notebook memory is generally the same all around. The most popular brands are Kingston, Crucial, Corsair, and Transcend. Can't go wrong with any of the above listed companies.

On another note, DDR2-533 notebook memory has really shot up since I last looked . .
