    I've seen a number of people on these forums with merom cpus already. I'm slightly confused, have they been released yet?

    They have been officially announced but availability is still a few weeks away. People who currently have Merom either have pre-production samples or Engineering samples which Intel typically sends out to system builders and reviewers. Some of these make their way onto ebay and are sold for hefty premiums and those who want the bleeding edge and dont mind paying for it buy it.
