I know there's been a lot of speculation about the release of the highly anticipated Merom processor, but apparently the launch will be....tomorrow? See the story here: http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/08/20060826164321.shtml

Mind you, it is coming from a site called "Mac Rumors", so it should be taken with a grain or two, but I thought it was interesting to point out. Also interesting is that I haven't heard jack staight from Intel about the launch. It's all come from news sites.

All of the notebook manufacturers are probably going to integrate the Core 2 Duo into their lineup at different times. Either way, it will happen soon enough, seems like people are just picking days right now and hoping they're right.

Yeah, you're probably right Chaz. This seemed kinda-sorta official, but I'm sure companies like Apple and Dell will integrate whenever they want to. I'm just chomping at anything with 'Merom' in it right now, so maybe just ignore that...

As Chaz said, the availability of notebooks is purely up to manufacturers and their marketing strategy.

BUT I have a feeling that the availability of the processor itself isn't that far of (at retailers such as newegg, ZZF...), because they are low on stock and missing the most interesting of the line (the ones that are the best bang for the $). I cannot see these large retailers not getting new stock / Intel not supplying them, unless the Merom is expected soon (probably a couple of weeks, but this is purely a guess on my part). Although I have heard from someone that might have more tangible info that it might be as far as early Oct. (at least mainstream as it was put) ...

Apparently Intel embargoed all Merom advertising by resellers until today 8/28. Of course some broke the rule and that's why you see it at some places and not others.

I got this information from Donald at Powernotebooks.

And I totally agree that each reseller has their own strategy of clearing out their Yonah stocks/introducing Merom.
