    Hi.
Was thinking about upgrading my Merom 1.6 ghz CPU to some kind of Penryn CPU. What i was thinking was that ive heard that you get alot better temps and that would really help me because i can“t stop my merom from throttling when over 73-75c. So how big is temp difference on penryns compared to my merom? Will it help me?

Currently i have a Zepto 6334w which does support penryn cpus.

    Thank you for any help.

First you should try replacing the thermal paste and undervolting which are very close to free.

Do you have good thermal paste?

You know it may be possible to stop the thermal throttling with a change in the dsdt table in your registry. I have helped others do it before.

Personally my T7300 even @90C doesn't throttle. I have no passive cooling code in my dsdt.

Be sure grill exhausts are clean from dust particles.

OK, T7300 (merom) VS T8100 (penryn):

    T7300 undervolted, idle at 32C.
    Max temp undervolted = 64C.

T8100 stock volts (more than the T7300 undervolted), idle at 21C.
    Max not tested yet.

The die of the T7300 is bigger, yet the T8100 is still around 10C cooler at idle.
Also the T8100 is 100mhz faster.

EDIT: T8100 tops out at 70C stock with intelburntest.

But I'm sure after I undervolt, it will be much lower than the T7300.

T7300 stock was around 85C max.

The T8100 has a min voltage of 0.9500V, while the T7300 can go to 0.8500V.
Means for power consumption, the T7300 might win. Unless you include the fan power usage.

You should consider upgrading to a T8300 or T9300. They will be cool and really fast.
