I have a Precision M90 with T2600 (2.1 GHz) with 32-bit version of XP Pro and all 32-bit applications. T2700 (2.33 GHz version of Yonah) and Merom are coming out this August, which one is a better upgrade?
Thanks,
Sam

Everything should run fine. It would work the same way as an AMD processor, except 32 bit software won't get the full benefit of the 64 bit processor. I would say Yonah, since the Merom is probably going to be more expensive, and not worth the cost. I was going to get an AMD 64 processor, but swayed away from it since I don't need the 64 bits.

Sure Merom will cost more, but I'll wait until the prices drop. If Merom will run fine with 32-bit XP I think I'll go with that. It's got 4MB of cache and has some architectural advancements over Yonah. Can the 32-bit softwares use the whole 4MB cache? They don't just get the "64-bit processing"?
Correct me if I'm wrong,
Thanks,

I haven't herd any of Merom's / Conrad's technical specs, but if you have the cash, go for it. All calculations on your machine will be faster with a 64 bit processor, but nothing out of the ordinary on 32 bit software, but you may notice a difference on 64 bit software. 64 bit is also considered to be "future proofed," but at the way 64 is progressing, it will still be some time before 32 bit computing is obsolete.

I would think everyhting these days is backwards compatible. Like my 64bit turion running 32bit XP and apps.
Merom with 32-bit XP, Possible?
