Hi everyone,
I just recently bought a laptop with the minimal 1gb DDR3 option, since I can get a far less expensive upgrade to 4gb just buying it myself. I'm caught between these two options:
Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel - CT2KIT25664BC1067 model
mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel - 996643 model
With a bit of research, the Crucial RAM uses Micron chips (as Crucial is the retail arm of Micron), and that particular muskin kit uses Nanya chips.
I'd save about $15-20 if I went for the mushkin, but how do their reliability stack up? I'm positive there would be no difference between the two pieces of RAM since they're specced the same, but the different chips that these memory use probably makes a difference in their quality right?
Anyone have any experiences/information on Micron vs Nanya chips?

i think the mushkin ram timings are lower, that is why they cost more. they will perform better, but by how much that i do not know.

Nanya v/s Micron -- Even.
Both have entered into a technological partnership, and both use the industry-leading Stack DRAM Cell manufacturing process....
But, I would go for Crucial mainly because of their awesome customer support service.
I had generic Nanya DDR2-800 modules constantly overclocked at 933MHz, and none of the cells choked, even once.
Timings/Cas Latency isn't gonna make much of a difference unless you're into overclocking and PCMark Scores. -
They perform equally, but Micron is a far better refinedd chip. I have had a few nanya chips burn, but never had a problem with Micron. Crucial FTW
I would get the Micron, just to have that extra piece of mind that if the memory card dies, it will be replaced in a quick/efficient manner. I never dealt with mushkin, but they are a smaller company, so most likely turn around times are much longer.

Thanks for the input everyone. Mmmm unfortunate about the Nanya chips burning K-TRON, but it seems Andy has had pretty good experiences with those chips.
In the end I just opted for the mushkin-Nanya RAM to save a measly $13, and both had lifetime warranty. Though it would seem Micron makes the better chip, since they use the same manufacturing process, I hope the quality gap has since narrowed!
EDIT: Being the insane bipolar individual that I am, I cancelled the mushkin RAM and opted for the Crucial. After more searching I haven't really heard of anyone frying their Crucial RAM. Ahh choices sure aren't easy these days. -
good luck with the memory, let us know if you need any more help.
By the way, you made a smart choice going for the Crucial
