My brother inlaw has an acer 1360 series without wifi (it was optional). The laptop has what seems to be a mini pci slot. Can i use any mini pc wireless network device that fits in this slot. Eg: like a pci slot on a pc , you can plug what ever you want it.

Im a very experienced network/pc tech, but i have only just bought a notebook myself (i love it :D )

    Many thanks.

No, abolutely not any mini PCI wireless support the notebook.

Since i am not fimular with the Acer notebooks, I cannot help you which mini-pci will work...But I found this one will work on the notebook, Acer InviLink 802.11g.

    Why wouldnt mini-PCI work?

If that Acer card fits, then any other mini PCI card would. I'm sure you could put an Intel Chip in there.

    Bios.

If I put a Dell mini-PCI to a Acer notebook, it will not work...but I think there is way to get around it, but it may be difficult.

However, I have to agreed with you on the Intel, it should work.

Interesing, I never knew BIOS was a limiting factor in mini PCI cards. If you are going to buy a wireless card, Thanks NetBrakr :)

I strongly recommend the Intel Pro Wireless Wireless card. It is far superior to anty other in terms of reliability.

I have tryed a gigabyte pcmcia first, rubbish. HP Broadcamm mini pci rubbish. USB safecom ok. I think ill go with an intel next as the one one in my 6400 is bullet proof, but thats a different size adapter. Any one care to suggest a a good intel card.

Ive tryed two differnt antennas too, foxconns ones were poor. Acer ones are better. Anyone know a really good set of internal antennas?

Atheros makes some damn good wireless cards, rivaling those Intel ones.
