The generic User Guide for my Lenovo G510 says that it is supposed to have one Mini PCIe slot for wifi, plus one for SSD. This appears to be confirmed by hardware reporting tools (HWiNFO64), and I would like to add an SSD in the appropriate free slot.

Looking at the relevant area in the open machine, I see the half-height wifi card. If I remove this card, I see what appear to be three rows of connectors, but perhaps they are not. The top one, where the wifi card sits, has a "peg" that fits into the gap between the two sets of pins in the card. The two rows below the top one have, instead of the "peg", two small rectangles, and I cannot imagine what would possibly fit here.

If these two rows are not the mini PCIe slots I'm trying to locate, then where are they?

Please see the photo. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Photo link is not working.

I found an Mini PCIe in my HP notebook, even though the service manual did not mention it, I took the chance and bought an 256gb Mini PCIe card and it works in a fashion, My HP cannot boot from the Mini PCIe SSD (no options in the bios) it boots from the HDD and then switches to the SSD.

Works for me, though I had to refresh the page the very first time I tried to display the post. Can you retry, please?

And thanks for the relevant info.

The photo only shows one slot as far as I can see, the holes you point out are just part of the connector construction.

I had a look at mini pci e connectors and they normally are lower profile and only have one hole, yourse has two making it taller for some reason, though I can only see one mini pci e slot.

Hmmm, I wonder if the image is too big. I'll replace it with a smaller one. Thanks.

So one slot it is, as far as we can see. Can't help but wonder what HWinfo64 is seeing. In fact, even Device Manager is reporting PCI Express Root Port #1, #2, and #3. When viewing "Devices by connection", these show the wifi (#2), ethernet (#3), and no device on #1.

    Thanks again.

I saw that post before I even posted here, but I felt a bit uncertain about the accuracy of the info. After stating that the G510 has only one PCIe slot, the writer provides a link to the Maintenance Manual, where, in the Specifications section it says: PCI Express Mini Card slot: Wimax/WIFI x 1; SSD x 1. I guess this is because the manual is generic and applies to several models.

    Oh well, so be it.

Thanks very much for your efforts.

    Cheers.
