I've been doing many Google searches, trying to find out a definitive answer, on which Mini PCI-e wifi card has the best range. So far, predominantely I have come across forums that don't talk so much of range, as much as 'packet injecting' ability and whatnot. It'd be a fun + to get a card with open drivers or whatever but I am looking @ range and speed as the #1 feature.
My Asus G50Vt has the Intel 5100 in it, and I need better range.
I could go with one of these two expensive very high-powered external solutions instead;
http://www.radiolabs.com/products/wireless/waverv2.php
http://www.wifisignalking.com/wifi_signal_king_7-1_verify_2_018.htm
The Wifi signal king is way more expensive, but it uses 2 USB ports for power! I suppose that would be a top-end solution (beside the possibility of Rednecking a Can-Tenna or something like that)
But I'd rather not go with one of those two external solutions; I'd rather replace the Intel 5100 with a different Mini Pci-E card.
Cards based on the Atheros AR5006 sound interesting like the Gigabyte GN-WI01G.
Is there a consumer reports of wifi cards?? I wouldn't suppose that tomshardware.com has ever done any testing on laptop wifi cards...
Thanks for reading

holy crab there is not much you can do ...got with the 5300 and then you could hack your antennas lol
-
Well, wifi signal strength usually depends on your aerials rather than the card. If your signal is weak, changing the internal card will not buy you much, IMHO.

Well, it happens to be at Portland Community College in Oregon, Rock Creek Campus.
Their Engineering building at that campus doesn't have many wifi routers, so some classrooms have very weak wifi.

it's not really the card chipset that makes a real difference, it's the antenna. get something with an external antenna and you will get a LOT MORE range. you can even try to connect a very large antenna (similar to the aereal tv ones size) to get even more range.
Keep in mind, if you want range focus on the antennas not in the card.
in your second link you have an extremely expensive usb antena which consumes 4 watts (will drain battery much faster, most cards don't even consume 0.5watts) and it gives ONLY 2MILES range. Thats crazy. with some quality antennas (and I'm not even talking about the very big ones, I'm talking about something you can carry easly in your backpack) and a normal wifi card you will get more then 2miles for a fraction of the price.
If you really want a mini pci-e solution you won't get more range unless you mod or change the antennas, the intel 5100 has one of the best ranges in wifi cards, but even if you get a better one you will just get a few more meters.
Mini-PCI-E wifi card with best range?
