I've done it with a 1st gen bottom of the barrel i3-540 CPU using it's iGPU. I guarantee whatever you've got will probably handle it.

Any new CPU should be able to handle Bluray ext player its the memory and processor speed and if duo core or not that makes more difference for newer laptops. I wouldn't go for anything less then Duo 2 Core processor to handle most jobs unless your multitasking but Intel Duo 2 core processors based laptop and discrete GPU would be the way to go for good playback viewing. IMO

I doubt that a Pent III is worth using to play ext bluray that would suffer badly in playback if one is going to use it to watch movie. There are limits to older processors and one shouldn't think they can handle what todays processors can single handily do effortlessly.

Any currently manufactured laptop will be capable. Don't worry.

True but not everyone is hot with a new laptop so we have to take that into account everyone is a different stages of laptop generations and some have and some have not. So we should give some specs so others will know not to get a int laptop BD drive if their laptop isn't up to par to handle BD media.

Anything that's not single-core will play a BD movie.

Well the OP was looking to buy a new laptop, so I assumed he meant new, and not something he found for $100 on Ebay.
