I am planning to buy either P150SM-A or P65xSx soon and swap the RAM from my current laptop. This is the RAM I have on my Y580:
HyperX Plug n Play 16GB (2x8GB)
1600MHz CL9 1.5V
I just bought this because it was on promotion.
G.SKILL Ripjaws 8GB (1x8GB)
1600MHz CL9 1.35V
As far as I know, both laptops state this in their specs page
-Dual channel DDR3L
-Four 204 pins SODIMM sockets, support DDR3L 1600 MHz ( Real operation frequency depends on processor)
Is it ok if I mix all 3 SODIMMs in those computer? Is there any risk at all?

Yeah, the risk is that the new platform only supports 1.35V RAM modules.
Use the 1.5V modules at your own risk.
Btw; warranty won't cover this.D2 Ultima and edwardamin13 like this. -
Warranty won't cover what? Worse that will happen is the system won't work. Just remove the 1.5V RAM modules and you're good to go. But yes, best to buy 1.35V RAM modules. I've had success with 1.5V modules but it's really luck of the draw. Some are dual mode though.ellalan and edwardamin13 like this.

So your 1.5V RAM isn't dual mode yet it worked? How long have you been using it?
So looks like it's not a good idea to do this if I can avoid it. I found this thread : Upgraders: 1.35V memory is required!!
and lots of other link on google regarding avoiding 1.65V RAM in 1.5V slot. Sigh

I don't use 1.5V RAM any more though. I just used it for a while to see how well it worked. It worked fine with Kingston Hyper-X. But it may or may not work depending on the RAM you have (even other Hyper-X) or system you have. If you have it, try it, worse that will happen your system won't like it, and that will be apparent because your system probably won't boot. Just remove it and use only the 1.35V RAM.

1.5V should work in the Ivy Bridge notebooks.. Its only in Haswell that 1.35V memory is required but I've seen cases where 1.5V memory still works.. So for OP who has an Ivy Bridge notebook it shouldn't be a problem..

The RoG's thread OP said: Yes it will work but under extensive stress (gaming/video encoding etc) you can get overheating depending on the DIMMs used. 1.5+V is generally not advised for long term use either, but a few weeks won't hurt.
Yeah, I've been using my Lenovo for 2 years and 1.5V works fine, but I am considering getting one of the Sager with 970M/980M. It will probably work, although I don't know if I want to risk it. I am expecting 3-5 years with the new laptop so..
Oh, theoretically I can swap 3630QM with 4710QM if the issues is because of IB vs Haswell. That means I have to get P150SM-A (for socketed CPU) and live with older processor :/ -
The ivy bridge and haswell processors cannot be swapped... They're different sockets...edwardamin13 likes this.
Mixing 2x8 GB 1.5V RAM with 1x8 GB 1.35V in P150SM-A/P65xSx?
