I am in the beginning stages of learning enough about laptops to make a somewhat informed buying decision in regards to a new laptop. I plan to spend around 750-800 on a 15.4 up to 17" laptop soon. This will be a windows machine.

Can anyone shed some light on which processors are good, and which to avoid? What's the best class of Intel chip I might see in a $800 laptop?

Ideally, also let me know if AMD is on par with intel for mobile chips.

    Thanks!
