Which of the above cards is best for watching/editing High Definition Videos? Not Gaming
I am talking about something like AVCHD format.

    Thanks.

Honestly, either one would be fine, but I'd go with the ATI. The 8600's have been known to have issues, and the 3650 will run very cool, quiet, and up to 2560x1600 resolution! :)

Even integrated graphics (Intel 4500MHD or the new 5700MHD, or AMD Radeon 3200M) can handle 1080p content playback very well. A discrete card is not necessary. As Angelic said, though, I would avoid the 8600 since it is known to have problems that can reduce its lifespan.

Yeah, but if he's doing lots of HD video work, he might be happier with the performance and features of a low end dedicated card. You can have higher resolutions and less stutter, due to most of the processing being done on the card, not to mention the dedicated memory. :)

the 3650 is quite average but more reliable than 8600M GT.. Anyways , what laptop are u getting? Is it a old refreshed one because u can find much better laptops out there. 3650 and 8600M GT are like 3-4 years old...

They are 2nd hand laptops, not too important. But thanks everyone i'll take your advice and stick with HD3650.

The Radeon 3650 is not even 2 years old, and the GeForce 8600 is not quite 3 years old...

well i meant the cards were released 2-3 years ago.. 3650 came out in Jan 2008 while 8600M GT came out in June 2007... i might have been a little inaccurate but 8600M GT is almost 3 years old..
