Ok so what is the standard for optical drives? Is it possible to buy a 3rd party optical drive and upgrade your notebook? I want to buy a Dell D820 with a WUXGA screen and wait until blu-ray drives are available and upgrade to watch BluRays at 1080P. Is this possible?

Possible to upgrade the drive, but D820 screen/video doesn't support that 1080p thingy.

from what i have seen, laptop optical drives all have a standard connector.. you just have to take the actual drive out of the case in this case, the dell one that you have and then there will be a connector inside that converts it from the standard connector to the dell one..

also, you would want to take the bezel off of your dell drive and put it on the new drive.. you won't have the nifty blu-ray logo on it though...

i was taking apart some cd drives in different laptops the other day just to see if this was the case or not...

Any WUXGA screen sopports 1080P its just video at 1920X1080 at 60Hz, and the D820 has a workstation grpahics card that can easily handle that video.
