These are the results of the HDD tune test

    31.8 MB/sec
    79.2 MB/sec
    61.7 MB/sec

    Acces time 19.8 ms
    Burst Rate 57.9 MB/sec
    CPU Usage -1.0%

But really after a while the transfer stays around 20 mb/sec which is quite annoying. Is there something wrong with my laptop?
This is my internal HDD, i'm using Win 7 64bit on an ASUS X64Jq laptop (Core i7, 4 Gb Ram)

That's disappointing! How much do you think it would improve if I replace it with something like this? MOMENTUS XT ST95005620AS 2,5 Momentus XT | 7200 RPM | Seagate

    What files are you transferring?

If its a lot of small files then the transfer rates will be slow. If its large sequential files then it will be very fast.

Other than that, the HDtune results look ok. Could be faster if your OS wasnt loaded on it and using up resources.

I am tranfering big files (4-8gb). I just thought it should be faster, I guess I was wrong!

The question first came to me when I bought a USB 3 external drive and noticed that the tranfer rate wasn't much better than the USB 2, but I soon realised that not even my internal HDD wasn't doing any better! So I guess that's why i'm not seeing a big difference between USB 3 an 2

In any case I'm not using my laptop as a fileserver, but I am using it as a DAW: performance is importat, but what I have is good enough for now!

If I had the money to waste, how much do you think performance would improve if I replaced my internal HDD with a Momentus XT(Hybrid) or a Scorpio Black?
