    I recently loaded W7 on the XT I had sitting around. I had bought it while I was waiting for the Samsung 470 SSD came out. I was running HDTune to check for any sector problems and it hit 142 degrees a couple of times.
    What are users of this drive seeing in temps? Also, any links to the what the latest FW update corrects or fixes? I can't find any details anywhere.

    142 degrees celsius or fahrenheit?

    Plus, check your temps with HWMonitor.

    Seagates's Momentus XT shows SD25 is the latest, but I know SD26 is on the way.

    Sorry I cannot help w/ temps, HWMonitor nor the other tools I have installed see my drives. I'm not certain, but it might be that I have them in RAID 1.

    That is fahrenheit, sorry. :)

    I found some more reading on this drive, there sure are alot of people having some issues! I am assuming the new FW will be out soon according to what I could tell.

    Thanks

    You guys ever move your notebook around and it sounds like you're swinging a light saber?

    Mine's a Toughbook :) I am always moving it around. Just last night I was at my pool doing my daily water test when my son happen to be swimming at the same time. I keep my readings/numbers on a spread sheet so my laptop was close to the water. He was behind me, under the water and came up to try to scare me. Little did he know that I had just set my laptop down. Yep, it got a full dose of salt water. I got out, walked over to the house, made sure all my ports were closed and gave it a good washing with clear water for a couple of minutes. Then I got back in the pool and beat the living **** out of him, just kidding I would never touch the greatest son in the world :)

    What other laptop can you do that with? What other laptop costs you an arm and leg also:cry:

    With my line of work I have to use a rugged laptop. Any other would not last a week.

    Back to your question. What the hell are you talking about? A light saber???

    The Momentus XT sounds like a laser or light saber when you move your laptop around. I don't know if it is parking it, or the bearings are loaded more when being moved around.

    You know what 142 degrees celsius means?
    That would've melt the laptop. ;)

    142ºF = ~ 61ºC

    I'm not sure on notebook drives since the are made to be a bit more robust, but that's about the limit on desktop drives.
