    Momentus vs Barracuda for external drive

    Okay, so say I have a Seagate Momentus and a Seagate Barracuda. Aside from the obvious difference in size, will there be any differences if I were to use them as external drives? Both are 7200 RPM...but I assume the USB 2.0 connection will be the bottleneck. (And aside from the prices)

    If you're talking about one of the newer Barracuda drives then naturally it's going to be faster than the Momentus since 3.5" drives are bigger and faster. If you're just using it as backup storage then USB 2.0 will be plenty fast most likely for your uses. If you're going to be running something off of the drive or transferring very large files back and forth a lot you might consider going FireWire 800 or eSATA and you can buy a PC Card if your laptop doesn't have either of those which very few do.

    Not really. In the end, they'll both be constained by the interface, and you'll probably never see a difference betwene them performance-wise.
