Monitor Recommendation with Displayport, HDMI, DVI Cable

I have one samsung syncmaster t240 very old monitor that i bought used from someone because i could not buy 1920x1200 monitors where im located. I connect it to my dell xps 15 9550 via hdmi to hdmi cable with no issue. I previously had an asus monitor that stopped working which is the reason i went and go thte samsung monitor. Both are 24'. The asus monitor not that long ago worked again after i did not even touch it for close to 2 years. But then after it worked for a few weeks, it stopped working and i have to buy another monitor. When the asus worked for the short time, i bought a usb c to hdmi cable and connected my asus monitor to laptop that way. Thus usb c on my dell xps laptop to the asus monitor hdmi. Thus dual monitors.


I could buy this monitor where im located but this is the amazon.com us site. They have this on the other country site.

So based on this, i notice it does not have an hdmi port. How is this even possible? Shouldn't most modern monitors have hdmi? Now i notice it has displayport and dvi. Can someone here confirm its only these 2? Now here is my question. What cable should i buy? I already have one hdmi to hdmi cable that i connect my samsung syncmaster to my dell xps 15 9550 laptop. I have the usb c to hdmi cable that i bought for my asus monitor which has an hdmi port but that monitor stopped working. I want to buy this monitor but it has display port or dvi.


So should i buy a usb c to displayport cable? Or usb c to dvi cable? Now heres the interesting thing. I could even use the usb c to hdmi cable to connect my samsung monitor as i tried this before. So based on that, that means i could also buy an hdmi to displayport cable or hdmi to dvi cable correct? Thus my options are

hdmi to dvi cable


So in terms of cost, seems like hdmi to dvi cable cost the least.... At the moment im in the US so i could buy these cables where i could bring it to the country where im using it. But i cannot buy a monitor though. Thus i would buy that asus monitor in that country.. but i need proper cable. But i heard dvi is not very good and you shoudl always go with hdmi or displayport... is that correct?


So should i just get the usb c to displayport cable since that would probably work best if im sure i will be buying this monitor? The other thing that confuses me is what about those 2 other cables? HDMI to displayport and usb c to dvi. I read reviews that most of the hdmi to display port are incorrect in that its the complete opposite and that doesn't work? And the usbc to dvi would just be paying too much since i already have that usb c to hdmi cable? Thus might as well get the hdmi to dvi cable if i choose that route? Thanks.

 

The thing is i want to get a 2nd monitor that is 1920x1200 resolution at the cheapest price. That one is the cheapest in that country where i use it above. It actually cost much more than the US price but cheapest i saw online.


My other option would be to buy one of these monitors. Im posting the us site for these monitors but the prices of these cost about 50-60 dollars more than the one i posted though the price of these are same or even less than the one above. But in that country, these 2 cost more than the one i posted in previous post.


Both seem to have hdmi to hdmi. But these cost a lot more than the asus one i show above. The prices here isn't that big difference but in that country its a bit different.

So what would be your recommendation for my 2nd monitor? The one i posted in the first post cost the least... though it still cost at least 290 dollars in terms of USD. The ones i posted here.. cost at least $355 USD in that country where i will order from. So because of that, i think best to buy the first link i posted in the original post? Then which cable should i get since i already have 2 cables... hdmi to hdmi and the usb c to hdmi. Because if the asus one i posted in first post had hdmi, well i don't need to buy another cable.

 

Also like another opinion. Would you say its fine using something like this now even though this monitor seems to be 10 years old? I could get this one on a site similar to ebay in the country where im buying it from used for a very nice price.

I have to get 1920x1200 resolution. But would you say avoid this monitor since its very old model? Also i believe its tn display as oppose to ips.

 

As far as I know 16:10 aspect ratio monitors have become very rare lately, so that explains the high price tag.

From my experience I wouldn't recommend the Dell U2415 at all if you're solely interested in gaming/ media consumption, also its fairly overkill for just word processing. As far as price goes I've paid full retail price, which was about €300 or $350ish back in 2016.
Be aware that those Dells aren't perfect out of the box. Mine has uneven mounting pressure at the top left part of the screen. In another words; backlight bleeding. (To be fair, only obvious at night at higher than 35 brightness setting).
I would however recommend that Dell when your eyes are sensitive for flickering pwm brightness control, need somewhat color accurate panel and prefer that 16:10 aspect ratio like I do.

This is highly dependent at which country you live. Have you considered looking at used/ corporate market monitors? Here where I live someone is selling loads of HP LA2405x monitors for about €97 ($110) per unit.

For connectivity I haven't encountered anything out of the order of connecting a type C to Displayport cable for my Dell Ultrasharp.

 

Do you seriously recommend TN over IPS?

 

Hi there. Well i need to have 1920x1200 resolution. That is a must. Thus 1920x1080 won't work.


Well the thing is these monitors, i am not buying it in the US because im buying it while in another country to use there. Thus these are the monitors they have in that other countrys amazon or similar to like ebay in the US. Thus i have just one working monitor now and its a samsung syncmaster 240 that is probably made in 2008. I got that used because its hard to find 1920x1200 where im located.


So now i need a 2nd monitor because i had an old asus 24' monitor that worked and then stopped working... then worked again for a very short time... which is the reason i bought a usb c to hdmi cable to connect it and thus have 2 monitor set up with laptop... now i need a new monitor. But i might have to get another cable so i dont want to keep buying so many cables if i already have hdmi to hdmi and usb c to hdmi. The samsung monitor i currently use, i do hdmi to hdmi but it also works with usb c to hdmi. Since i have a hdmi and a usb c port on laptop... thus one for each monitor.


So in those monitors i listed above... i listed 4 of them, which would you suggest? I like to add that the first 3 is brand new. The last link i posted would be bought from a site like ebay where price is very cheap compared to the other ones. The thing is i wanted to get the first link i posted but issue is it has no hdmi port so that mean i have to buy another cable. But i use the 2nd or 3rd link, i believe those use hdmi. But those monitors cost like 60 dollars more etc. And if the first monitor and me buying another cable cost 15 dollars, well i save 45 dollars if you know what i mean.


The HP LA2405x, i actually bought that monitor brand new years ago when i was in Canada and it was great. But i cannot get it in the country where im located which is the main issue here.


Because if i needed monitors in the us, i just buy them amazon and its a breeze since electronics in us cost not much. But in other countries where not only are certain monitors hard to find, they cost like 1.5x minimum what you pay in the us. But the last monitor is TN right?


The thing is i noticed my samsung monitor syncmaster t240 when i used it along another asus monitor that worked for a short while, it was MUCH BRIGHTER on the asus monitor. The syncmaster is like an hdtv monitor and it is not bright at all. Thats why its a tn display right? I would be using 2 monitors side by side and i definitely liked the brighter monitor.


So suggestions on which monitor i should buy based on those 4 monitors i listed? Basically the 1st is the cheapest new one. The 2nd and 3rd are the expensive ones. The 4th is the cheapest and is used and sold by someone similar to like on ebay in another country. But the 1st one... i have to buy another cable right? I have hdmi to hdmi cable and usb c to hdmi cable. The others seem to all allow hdmi which mean my 2 cables would work for my currently monitor and whatever monitor i buy except the 1st one right?

The usb c to displayport cost 15 dollars. The hdmi to dvi cable cost about 8 dollars. But is the video quality about the same? I read dvi is basically the same thing as hdmi? However, is it true the hdmi to dvi cable might not support resolution of 1920x1200 though? I did read reviews of it and it said it does but only up to 1920x1200. I only need 1920x1200.


Just trying to figure out most cost effective way of getting a 2nd monitor with 1920x1200 resolution because the cheapest new monitor the asus one in the first link, it has no hdmi port. I already have an usb to hdmi cable so i wouldnt need to buy another cable if that monitor use hdmi but it does not.

 

The thing i want to add is this. Eventually i would be selling this monitor in the future. So would you say for the resale value of it... its better to pay more for a monitor with an hdmi port as oppose to a monitor with just displayport, dvi ? Thus the asus monitor that is the cheapest in the first link cost around 285 usd in the country i would be buying from. I would buy either a usb c to display port or hdmi to dvi cable to connect my dell xps laptop to it which is either another 15 dollars or 8 dollars. Thus im paying around 300 dollars for it.


Or i could buy another monitor that cost around 345 dollars total but it has hdmi port. Thus it would cost me 45 dollars more... but would it be easier selling that monitor oppose to the first one since it doesn't have hdmi? Or is having displayport and dvi cable and no hdmi really not that bad when selling a monitor.

The one thing that would concern me a bit is... would the hdmi to dvi cable support 1920x1200 on my asus monitor? My laptop resolution is 1920 x 1080. The samsung monitor i use is 1920 x 1200 and i connect hdmi to hdmi and it is that resolution. But i also have usb c to hdmi cable. So if i buy the hdmi to dvi cable, then i would use the usb c to hdmi cable for my samsung monitor right?


I know vga is very bad. But is dvi okay? Or should i use displayport? I know vga is very old but isn't dvi basically hdmi? So can someone suggest which cable i buy with the monitor that i will buy which won't have an hdmi port? Or should i just pay more for that other asus monitor with hdmi port instead.
