How would I hook up a monitor or a screen to my laptop, and use it as that instead of the laptop screen? How would I be able to close the laptop and still have it on the screen?

Just plug the Monitor to your laptop using the provided VGA/DVI/HDMI cable, then hold FN and press a Function Key. It';s usually F4-5 or F7-8, look at those keys and see which one looks like it toggles the video output setting.

Just plug it in, right click on the desktop, select properties, go to settings and chose to use the external LCD as your main monitor.

Go under your power management settings and tell it to do nothing when you close your laptop's screen. You may need to go under advanced features.
