I just got a LG 22" L227WTG monitor today, I love everything about this monitor, it's bright, sharp, and vibrant. But there's one problem, there is a red fringing around texts.
Is it something I can't do anything about? or is there any ways to get this fixed?
It's kind of annoying..
I tried messing around with the monitor settings, and reinstalling my graphics card driver, but it's still the same.
Thanks
(I'm sorry if this is not the right place to post this thread)

Tried a different computer?
Sounds like a software issue to me. -
Yeah, It works fine on a Macbook Pro.. But when I use it on my Sony laptop, there are red color fringing around all the texts on the screen..
Somebody suggested reinstalling the graphics card driver but it didn't help.
I guess I just have to deal with it.. -
Are you using VGA or DVI/HDMI ?
If you are using a VGA cable then this type of artifacts can occur as a result of signal attenuation and D>A / A>D conversion. Changing the cable might help (if the shielding of your current cable is damaged). If you have a DVI interface I highly recommend using that. BTW when you tested with the macbook what cable did you use ? -
I hook up the monitor to the Sony using the VGA cable that came with the monitor (the Sony doesn't have a DVI or HDMI port)
And I'm using a DVI cable for the Macbook Pro
So you think that changing the cable might help the problem? -
Seems to me like VGA cable/interface problem. Changing the cable may solve it (especially, if the current cable is damaged or poorly constructed), but nothing can be guaranteed. The only sure way to get rid of that type of visual artifacts is to use DVI, but since you don’t have DVI you might have to get used to that red fringe, sorry
. BTW don't straightway buy a new cable, first try to borrow one and test.

Indeed...buy a decent VGA cable, most cables delivered with screen are cheap crap actually.

I just tried with the most expensive cable i can find at best buy and it's still the same
gonna have to return it.. -
Couple of options.
Try enabling ClearType or otherwise download it from Microsoft. This should only be used for LCD's.
See if it helps to change resolution. You graphics may not support the native resolution of the LCD.
Use a CRT. -
I'm pretty sure the HD3470 can handle 1680x1050..
and I'm pretty sure I have ClearType
a CRT will take up all of the usable space on my desk.. lol -
Changing the ClearType setting may help a little, but at the cost of coarser fonts. If you are to change it then you should actually disable it, because cleartype smooths edges of a font by anti aliasing, this adds shades of black but sometimes even dark red pixels to the surrounding area to give the effect of a smooth outline. Here is a zoomed in text with and without clear Type (on my computer under Vista). You can see there is a light red fringe even on mine, but at 100% it is not visible (this is a screen shot therefore no signal interference has occurred), I think in yours this has somehow gotten worse due to VGA signal degradation.
.............100% .................................................400% -
Thanks, I will try that
Where can I change the settings?
from what i see from the picture, the letters without cleartype actually looks better -
Did the monitor come with a driver cd?

XP : Display Properties > Appearance > same as above.
-
Well guess what, Disabling ClearType solved the red around texts problem!
But now the texts look horrible.. I just can't have the best of both worlds.. lol -
that's why you need cleartype.
download the setup and choose a different effect. -
Sorry for all the questions
but does the cleartype tuner work in Vista? -
Yea, I know it says it's for xp. I remember researching this awhile back and found that it works for Vista.
"The tool can also be used for tuning Windows Vista ClearType settings"
Here's the wiki. -

Yeah, It does work but everything is still the same..
