Think you've mastered Intel speak? Impressive, it's no easy task keeping Intel's brand names and in-house silicon language straight. Now rumor has it that Intel's Montevina will carry a new Centrino 2 branding in hopes of clearing up any confusing amongst consumers. Probably a good idea what with Centrino providing the catch-all since the launch of those Carmel, Sonoma, Napa, and Santa Rosa platforms running Pentium M, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo branded Banisa Banias, Donthan, Yonah/Merom and Merom/Penryn processors. If true, a Centrino 2 sticker would indicate 5th generation, Montevina-class Centrino with support for 45-nm, Core 2 Duo Penryn CPUs, a 1066MHz FSB, DDR3 memory, and mobile WiMax.

Eh, Intel doesn't make much sense about their model numbers. I don't really care what they call it as long as it performs (and I'm sure it will, so I have no worries). They can call it "AMD Killa VX546-RT" or "K10 Party Pooper" and I could care less.

Centrino is a platform, not a processor.

I can really point to this thread when someone is going to mention the word "upgrade" next time when talking about a laptop.
    Thank you! :D

    From http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20080218PD210.html, I read this:

"Intel will then launch seven 45nm SFF (small form factor) notebook CPUs, similar to those used in Apple's MacBook Air and soon other ultra-portable notebooks, in the third quarter of this year.''

    Are these Montevina platform also?

Who knows. At this point you can't say anything about what platform it's gonna be. But if it's the MBA CPU, then it's more likely to be a Santa Rosa contender.

Yes, they will be replacing current low voltage/ultra low voltage processors.
