I'm running Windows 7 x64 and using my laptop for music making (not solely). I already have 4GB, but I was wondering if you can put say, 8GB in a Vostro 1700?

Also, is it actaully worth doing?

Same applies to the 1700. 6GB is probably good; 8GB is a crapshot.

1700 and Inspiron 1720 are the same models, just a rebaged black and white finish. It is capable up to 6GB with BIOS A09. It depends on what you do that requires more than 4GB and you find that you keep hitting the RAM limit all the time.
