Which brand of blank DVD+R DL do you think is the most reliable? Is Verbatim still the most reliable? I don't want to waste any coaster.

    reliable in what sense?
if you grab it 10 years from now, it will still be good?
    15 years?
    20 years?
or are you just talking about actually burning them, and then maybe referring to it in a year or two?
Verbatim's are still the ones to go for at this time. More consistent than Memorex/HP media.

I am talking about the disc that I can burn successfully. I have encountered generic discs that just can't be burned successfully. They are coasters. You get error message that there is a problem during burning, the discs spitted out and becomes unusable. A very expensive waste.

    Go with Verbatim.
Also update the firmware for your drive, and the software you use as well.

TDK? really? I haven't been impressed with them in years, any of their media, especially the Costco variety. They burn but longevity and quality has been my issue with them.

Verbatim have a good reputation for sourcing high quality discs, but sometimes they get poorish ones. Pukka Japanese Taiyo Yuden have the best rep of all.

There are lots of guides on the web like http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm which explains how to identify good discs. As you can see it isn't easy and you can't usually see the media code until you open the pack.

Usually I pck a good make, buy a cake, check them and hpoe the rest I buy are the same batch.

There is dual layer TY out there? I didn't know that.

I hate how there was "fake" TY out there before.

    my money goes here:

http://www.mam-a-store.com/mam43437.html. Gold DVD-A, very nice, resistant to sunlight, and I used them when I used to make reference recordings of my radio shows for the station archives.
