yeah me too, but there is a huge difference btwn a 4200rpm drive and a 7200rpm drive. The difference between a 5400 and 7200 is minimal. and I need all the space I can get and until they offer a 120gb+ 7200rpm sata drive I will be fine with 5400rpm.

5400 rpm is the lowest I would go. 4200 is just ridiculous especially with all the processor and ram speed your computer will be slow if you dont have a faster HD.

I need to get an external.

100gb because I want the 7200 if im going to game. But yeah when they come out with a 120gb 7200 it will be the best of both worlds.

How much space do you REALLY need? I have an 80GB +120GB external,+40GB portable+240GB on desktop.
With just 20% used on each, and that being the backup of the others.

I only have 80GB 4200rpm ( it's so slow that games need to pause so much time to load) and I need more. I'm thinking buying an external hdd. 2'5" 80-100 GB if I can.

every bit of my 120gb lappy hdd. Because the only other storage I have is a 80gb file server at home that is about to die. I would store things on my wifes desktop(my old home brew I built) but she already is complaining that I left a game or two on there after I gave it to her  . It would be nice to have the extra speed and performance but I can wait.

Oh and I dont know about your acer but mine gets around 3 hours.

The most popular amount of hard drive space should be 80GB and 100GB in the market because of a best deal to compare of another capacity.
I have 80GB 7200rpm in my laptop, 40GB and 100GB for external hard drive. I will not save everything such as personal data or downloaded file or program to laptop's hard drive. Almost all the data will save to the external hard drive. If i need it, then i will plug it to USB port. If i don't need it, then unplug it.

Speed and space. 200 gb 7200 rpm. I've got like 90 percent free. =/

Though, they say it's 200 gb, but really you only get 186 gb space.

100 GB 7200 RPM. Bigger and faster would of course be welcome, but I usually don't store that much data anyway.

I have 80 gigs on my desktop but only around ~50% of that is being used...so I'd think 60 gigs on my laptop would be enough, but 80 is always nice for the price :)

    internal: 80GB, 120GB, 200GB, and another 80GB--all of which are 7200rpm.
    external: 250GB
I have 2 desktop and a latop using these HDs. all of them have roughly 40-50% used space on them.

Speed is always more important that capacity.

I have a 100 gb hard drive, and a 300gb external one (in enclosure) and it's not at all enough. Since my entire music collection needs to be on my laptop while I am here at college, I wish I had two TB.

In my desktop i got 200GB space but i use only 50GB of it.
Now in my new laptop i have 80GB harddisk space, it's more than enough for me.
I use my harddisk only for windows, games, a little bit music (not more than 250nrs) and a few pictures. Every 3 or 4 months i backup the most important files and format my harddisk. I hate it to use too much drivespace. It makes a notebook or pc slow.

100GB at 5400 is enough space and speed for me
120GB external HDD at 7200.But I would guest that it would depend on what you were doing with your HDD also.

The only time I ever came close to filling up the HD was with my first PC (ca. 1996) which had a roughly 800MB HD. My, yet-to-arrive- M1710 has a 7200PRM 80GB HD and that will be more than enough space for me. My desktop has two 74GB Raptors in RAID0 and I'm only using 15% of that.
