Installed a 920XM into the machine in my sig couple of days back but only got round to do a bit of OCing today.
I took the TDP and TDC to 70 and the multi on 3 and 4 cores to 20x or 2.6ghz and found it stabilised after a few mins at just over 18x multi.
I then upped the TDP to 80 and left the TDC at 70 and tested again. Dead stable at full 20x multi with temps in the early eighties. Minutes later laptop died.
No light showing on the adaptor. Pull adaptor out of laptop and replug it and light shows again. Upon inserting into laptop light immediately goes out.
No life whatsoever off either mains or battery when power button pressed.
So I am pretty sure a capacitor somewhere has blown! The machine is just over 2 years old. Was it just time or am I unlucky?
I have sent it in for repair to a laptop motherboard repair company who have said it is very likely fixable but I really want to see whether other people have had similar problems. Here's to hoping some quality new capacitors or chips will extend/breath new life into the notebook!

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
It means you have power circuitry issues, more likely a bad MOSFET(s) than a blown capacitor, OR a short circuit. I'd also test out your AC adapter with a multimeter.

I sent the adaptor in with the laptop. The repair company stated it was most likely a short circuit occurring. Especially as also when I leave the adaptor plugged into the laptop and then switch the plug on the light on the adaptor flashes intermittently on a off very quickly but gives no power to the laptop. As I mentioned before plugging tip into the laptop immediately causes the adaptor to switch off. I guess it is protecting itself?
Talking about power circuitry issues the battery barely worked but then again it was only a pathetic 4 cell battery. It used to last about 20 mins a couple of weeks back before dying oddly enough the battery showed 30-40% charge remaining so perhaps the amount of voltage the battery supplied dropped. From a few days back though it won't even last 5 mins. Perhaps these symptoms were the precursors of todays problem
Motherboard capacitor blowout! Unusual? Or just old age... or perhaps my fault?
