So the motherboard in my MSI GX640 is dead so I need to replace it. I looked it up and it says the mainboard is an INTEL HM55. When I looked up this board though, it is normally advertised for an HP laptop. Is this the right board? Or are there different versions of it? Also, where would you recommend purchasing one from?

HM55 is the chipset, not the motherboard. You'll probably need either that info form a reseller or you'll have to disassemble the notebook to get the right part number. Google might have the answer too.

That's a really cheap old low end laptop($900), why not just buy a new one?? Before that, how do you know for sure the motherboard is dead?? It could be any number of problems.
