I've got a dell inspiron 8500 that won't turn on because of no connection to the power connector, if I buy a new motherboard(asus) would it be compatible with the dell?

Nope, you have to buy one from Dell, because it has to fit into the chassis.

    jesst7,

You can take it to a computer repair shop and they will resolder the power connector for you, it is expensive if you have to replace the whole thing. If it is just a soldering issue I would call around before I replace the motherboard. :D

laptop MB's are not standardized, so each laptop may have MB's of different design and size. So unless you get the replacement from Dell(for the 8500). The chances of fitting another totally different is quite impossible.
