I have an old alienware 5620D. These are notorious for their video card overheating and frying. The video card is integrated into the motherboard so you are forced to buy a new motherboard if this happens. I found someone selling the mobo (new) and put it in, connected everything and plugged in the power.
When power is plugged in both the battery light and power light go on (orange). I go to turn the laptop on and all 4 lights flash green, then the first light stays on for 1-5 seconds then the laptop shuts off. I took the laptop apart again to make sure I didn't forget to connect something and everything is hooked up.
The ground connection for the power strip fell out a while back, but it worked for a while before the video card problem.
Another thing is that the integrated cd player works fine with the laptop off.
In addition, the battery is not charging. (I left the laptop plugged in overnight about 12 hours and then unplugged power... no charge on battery)
My thoughts are that the power wire is bad and is not supplying the laptop with enough power to start up/charge the battery.
Is this accurate? or is something missing from the mobo or maybe I forgot to connect something?

anyone have any ideas?

update:
got a new AC adapter and it's doing the same thing.
I plug it in, battery in, and i can hear the HDD engaging, and the fans start for a few seconds, then it shuts off. Could there be something I am missing from the mobo when I replaced it?
I was reading power on problems for other computers and they talk about taking the battery out and pressing the power button for 5 seconds or something to reset the bios. Is there something like that for alienware lappy's? -
this thread would be best served under the alienware section thous guys know everything about them but i rarely seen anyone replace a mobo for there notebook
maybe you got to reset bios on your mobo if thats the case there should be pins that reset them on the mobo
ill do some research too =) -
thanks chinmonkie... lets just say the alienware forum has been less than helpful with this problem.
Motherboard replacement and now power on problems.
