I really do not know if this is the correct forum...but it is kind of an accesory..but anyway.

i would like to know if i could do Motherboard swapping..if that is even possible. As in, change parts of my laptop and get better ones (via the manufacturer)

Is this something that anyone can do or is this only with the manufacturer.
My laptop is from Sony, if they had experiences with them...please feel free to comment

    :)

this should be in the hardware section. A mod will move it soon

umm Yes you can do a motherboard swapping but its very expensive and not worth it. Your looking at about $300-600

The only advantage i can see from changing motherboards is getting a better GPU as it is soldered into the motherboard.

Thats good news! I was expecing 1000$+ .. because i dont want to purchase my laptop every now and then..i would like to be able to replace some of its components.

Is the replacement itself 600$ or is it included with the hardware components..

Tell us more about what you are thinking of doing as the general way you are asking is very difficult to answer. Also unless there is a specific component you are wanting to upgrade and it is attached to the MoBo such as GPU (as mentioned above) in many cases must of been offered on your original system when you bought or occasionally are some interchangeability but don't count on. You can't just go out and shop for components even if Sony will sell you a MoBo. Also if CPU is what you want to upgrade in many cases that does not require a new MoBo and did not always even have had to of been offered on your original notebook. So tell us what is up if you want real advice.

flipfire, what are you talking about?
miscolobo is basically asking, if he can swap the motherboard and stuff for new ones, and keep the current shell.
No, he will not be able to upgrade like that.
Each laptop is designed for a single grouping of parts.
You cannot physically find another motherboard which will fit into his system.
He will only be able to use the identical board.

Plus, their is no point in doing this, cause he/she could sell their laptop and then get a new one in a few

If he wants to upgrade his processor/memory or harddrive, then yes its possible, but he will not be able to get a different system board and graphics card

Dude, your laptop seems pretty good spec wise. Maybe throw in a C2D to replace the CoreDuo?

I did this on my dell inspiron 1520 - but that's because the upgraded graphics card was available for the inspiron 1520.

It voided my warranty and the laptop has a few quirks to it (forgot to hook up a few things) but I thought it was quite fun. To be honest, if I could have, I would rather get the laptop with it in it already.

Don't be afraid to keep trading laptops - it will cost money. As much as I like my two laptops, this time next year, I do not plan on having them. I need to sell them and keep trading up.

If the 8400GT is the best GPU you can get for your model then im afraid you cant upgrade.

If they made a 8600GT for your sony notebook then you might be able to swap the motherboards for the better GPU
