I bought a new mouse and it doesn't work. At first, the drivers wouldn't install correctly. So I restarted and tried again. The drivers did install successfully but the damn thing still won't work.

what is the mouse you are using?
what is your operating system (32/64bit)?

I would suggest uninstalling any other mouse drivers that were already on the pc (like logitech's setpoint). Then try and plug the mouse back in and wait for it to install generic working drivers, then download or load the drivers/software for the mouse. Restart the computer if needed with the mouse plugged in.

Some labtec mouse. It's actually not really new, a friend just gave it to me lol. I'm also using 64 bit vista home premium. How do I uninstall mouse drivers?

the 64-bit vista could be the culprit as the "old" mouse may only have 32bit code for compatibility. If you didn't install anything when you plugged it in, then there are no software drivers for the mouse installed on your computer. When you initially plug in a mouse, the pc communicates with the mouse by installing a generic/vanilla driver. But if labtec's website doesn't have 64-bit drivers, then the OS could be the problem.

Edit: solution > CHUNK IT, jk

I highly doubt it's the drivers. Mice don't use proprietary technology to move the cursor up and down. I'm assuming it uses a PS/2 port since it is old. That is why it didn't work in the first place. Most BIOS are fishy with hotswapping PS/2 devices.

Make sure the mouse works on another computer...

I guess my plan is mouse + hammer = fun + going out to buy a new mouse.

Go to Goodwill. They sell mice for like $4.

They don't have a goodwill in my area. I don't think they even have them in Canada either.
