I have a HP NX9010 that I bought used and now the cursor wont move when the unit is booted on. The blue light comes on for a sec. when booting but does not come on when pushed. Is there a lock? also a corded mouse wont work either. Sorry didnt read your reply very well. If there is a hotkey I dont know with one it is . There is a on/off bar right above the pad itself but wont do anything. Thanks again

Is there a hotkey for turning your mouse pad on and off? Is your system recognizing the corded mouse?

No it won't work with a corded mouse either, but the light does come on while booting up for just a sec. thats why I feel that it is locked out but cant seem to find it. Thanks for any help!!!!!!!

Is this a USB or a PS2 mouse?
If your laptop has a PS2 port, try using a PS2 mouse.
THis may be a problem with your USB hub on your laptop
Your touchpad runs through the usb hub as well, so if the usb hub on the motherboard is dead, you will not be able to use the touchpad or any USB ports.
Beforethinking your laptop is dead, look into the usb ports, and see if their is any dust/metal in their, which is shorting the usb hub out. Use a vacuum to clean the ports and let us know what happens.
If you cannot get the system usb ports to work, you will need to buy a new motherboard for your laptop, as the usb hub has most likely been shorted by the previous owner.

I just tried a usb mouse and that works. It still is like the pad is locked , the corded mouse I have is real old so dont know if its good. Just dont understand why the pad light comes on on a reboot but then goes off and wont turn on . Thanks for any HELP

Your touchpad may is most likely the problem. If you have any usb devices like a memory card, test the usb ports, if they all work, than your usb hub is working. Since a usb mouse works, I believe your problem is just the touchpad.
Your touchpad may be using a separate internal hub, and their may be a short in the touchpad. The only way to know is to buy a new touchpad and replace it yourself. The original owner could have spilled something on the touchpad, or banged on it too hard, and could have damaged it, so your best off replacing the touchpad.
It is probably going to be $50, or so, it is just going to be hard to find one, so your probably going to have to email or call HP.
