I just bought a XPS 1210 with C2D with XP media center edition, but has since heard disturbing rumors regarding its inability to utilize the benefits of multi-core processors. Is there any truth to this? And if so, are there any patches or software to fix this problem?

    Thanks.

I think that was more related to the first generations of dual core systems.

Your system should have already been loaded with the Microsoft Hotfixes to optimize a dual core processor.

I'm not sure the link to the Microsoft page to check it, unfortunately, but I'm sure someone here will post it for you, so you can check if your system has it, just in case.

    Hope this helps.

    :)

My lappy benefited from the procedures in this thread.

MCE is largely based on XP Pro, so, it's not a kernel level issue.

It will be able to utilize it. Just run a virus scan and try to download a file at the same time. Look at the performance tab of the task manager when doing this.

You should do the multi core config for any pc with 2 cores, it'll help them out.

I dunno, I tend to avoid MS Hotfixes like the plague, anyone with an ASUS & Core (2) Duo try this out yet?

Yes. I consider it a must procedure if you want the full performance of the core duo.
