Not sure if this is the right category to put this thread in, but i didnt know where else to put it, so its here.
I have a Gateway P-6860 laptop and a 37'' Sanyo TV. When i first hooked up my laptop to my TV through a HDMI Cable everything went awesome. Now 2 months later, i upgrade my graphics card drivers and the display on the TV is all messed up. I use my display in cloning mode so i can run a movie on my laptop and watch it on my tv. The problem is all of the sides of the display on the TV are cut off and i cant for the life of me figure out how to fix it. I tried everything from installing new drivers to "change flat panel scaling" but nothing seems to work. So as i run out of ideas i come to you for help.
Sorry if my problem isnt very clear, i explained it the best i could.
And i am running driver version 186.03
Thanks for any advise you can give me.![]()

What video card do you have in your laptop? Have you tried using the original video drivers from Gateway?

Its a 8800M GTS. Ill try it now.

Try to auto-adjust the screen from the TV's menu. Also probably it's best if you give up the screen cloning till you figure out the problem. Use a single display, either the notebook or the TV out. What's the max resolution in pixels of the TV? Does your TV have a VGA/PC input with a separate audio 2.0 input?

1920x1080 is the resolution of my tv, but when i try and adjust the resolution to that through my computer it always reverts back to 1440x900 (my laptops native resolution). I tried to alter the settings in on my tvs menu but that did not work either. And i am not sure what the VGA/PC input is to be honest.. so i don know if it has it or not.

Just tried the drivers from Gateway, same problem

Check your TV's manual. Sometimes is called PC in or RGB in. It's a 15-pin plug. It should be listed under your TV's inputs unless it's disabled (hidden) by preference.

Who would i need to buy another cable if the hdmi works great, its just messed up on my laptops end?

It sounds like an overscan problem, which is usually fixable with TV settings. Why it would have changed when you changed your lappy drivers is a bit mistifying though.

i just reset my tv to factory settings, and i still have the overscan problem

Bump
Anyone else have any ideas? -
do you really need a full resolution full featured display? Check out the new 8-10 inch usb connect and powered displays. The run about $200- (ouch) but are very portable.
Multiple Displays.
