Just noticed today that my 2.00 ghz Pentium M is stuck at 800 mhz, no matter what. I'm running Notebook Hardware Control and no matter what I set it to, its always stuck at that speed, even at "Maximum Performance" mode.

Honestly, I almost always only need that speed due to the simple tasks I do but it still annoys me. How can I fix this??

Did you check the HWSetup in control panel under CPU tab? It should be set on "Dynamicly Switchable." If it's set on "Always Low", you will have that problem.

Could you tell me how to get there? I'm not sure what you are talking about. In NHC, I have the CPU set to Max Performance and its still stuck at stupid 800 mhz!!!!!!!

Have you tried doing anything intensive? Run a virus scan and something else at the same time, or encode some MP3's, and see if it spools up then.

Yes, I wanted to silence my fan which was bothering me, which is currently just about completely silent.

I don't think this is normal, because in the past when I set NHC to set the processor to "max performance", it would stay stuck at 2.00 ghz no matter what I did but now is just stuck at 800 mhz all the freaking time, no matter what settings I apply to it.

The only thing I've done recently is a system restore with XP, but I don't think that could have caused any problems could it?

Okay, never mind, I fixed it. :)

I went to the BIOS to the Dynamic CPU Setting option and found the setting to be set at "always low" and I set it back to "dynamic switching".
Funny, I don't remember setting it to "always low" though.

Glad you figured it out. Did you boot to BIOS or use the HWSetup in the control panel to change the setting?

This is for a Toshiba, BTW. Nobody could know that once the thread was moved from the Toshiba forum...

Fn+Z will drop your fan to quiet if you're running quickset.

Dang it!!! I booted to the BIOS to change the setting but just found out I just could have done the same thing through the Toshiba HWSetup in the Control Panel, stupid, stupid, stupid!
